Healthy chicken burgers

Hello and welcome. today I'm back sharing a new recipe. These chicken burgers are a staple at our house. The kids like them because they're soft and tasty, and since they are made with chicken, they are supposedly healthier than those made with red meat - or so they say....

Valentine's Day Decor - free printable

If you've been visiting for a while, you already know that I rarely change the decor in the house to match seasons or holidays. Except for Christmas, the rest of the year usually passes unnoticed in what concerns home decor - because, realistically, I just don't have the time for it.

This year, however, I decided to add a bit of color for Valentine's day, and so I designed this flowery  heart printable.

It's bright and happy, and reminds me of spring too, which is a bonus - I'm totally ready for winter to end.

If you want one too, just download the jpeg file here, print it, frame it in any way you want and you're done! One simple and easy way to add a bit of Valentine's Day spirit to your house.

The picture comes in a square shape, so you can easily use a square frame. But if you print it in a white sheet of paper, any other shape of frame works too.

Use this printable in any way you want, but if you re-post or share on social media, please leave a link back to this page!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - winter flowers

At the end of last year I decided that in 2018 I would not be writing these (Almost) Wordless Wednesday posts regularly any more. While I love taking photos, it's just too stressful to feel the obligation of finding new ones to share every week.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - winter flowers

So I will only be posting only when I have photos to share. Which is the case this week.

Last Sunday we went out for lunch and then took the kids to the park, taking advantage of the mild weather. And that's when I saw these flowers,. I don't know if they are hardened survivors from last fall, or if they are early spring signs, but its still pretty to see their spots of color on otherwise bare gardens.

DIY Play Food: cloth napkins & napkin rings

If you've been visiting this blog for a while you already know I have a soft spot for play food. I love creating new items for my kids and I'm dreading the day they tell me they are already too old for play food.

DIY Play Food. cloth napkins and napkin rings tutorial

Today, however, I'm not exactly sharing play food, but an accessory. Dishes, glasses and other play kitchen stuff are usually easy to come buy, and while they obviously be made at home, usually kids -especially girls - get them as gifts at one point or another. But one thing was missing in our play kitchen: cloth napkins. So we set out to make them. With cute napkin rings to match, if course.

These can be made in next to to nothing and are so easy that the kids can help in the process too.

(And as a plus, this project counts towards my goal of destashing in 2018, as it was exclusively made from leftover fabric and ribbon scraps).

Button organization ideas

While my main crafty goal for 2018 is destashing (you can read about it here), a better organization system of craft supplies will also go a long way to improve the status of my crafts closet. So...I decided to start with buttons.

While I'm not exactly a button collector, I do own a lot of buttons. Some of them were inherited from my grandmother, others were passed along by my mother. And, of course, a lot of them were bought by me. Previously they were all stored in an old tin can whose lid had the unpleasant habit of slipping out of place at the worst times, allowing the buttons to spread all over.

Here's the before:

After a lot of brainstorming and some online research, I chose to buy a wooden box with a clear lid.

It has several divisions to better organize the buttons and it snaps securely shut, which is a huge bonus also. And since I got in at the Chinese store, it was pretty inexpensive too.

Here's the after:

See? a very easy solution to a problem that had been nagging me for ages. And a significant step towards a more streamlined and organized 2018.

Scrappy crochet blanket

Following up on my mail goal for 2018 (which is destashing - you can read about it here), today I'm back here to show you my first destashing project of the year: a small crochet blanket totally made with yarn scraps. Which, just like the mini lap blanket I made last year, has already been claimed by my daughter. Apparently she has lots of dolls in need of warm winter blankets...

Scrappy crochet blanket - destashing projects

The blanket is crocheted in a simple wavy pattern, very similar to the one of the mini lap blanket, but with five stitches in each half of the wave instead of four.

Initially I thought about making the colors alternate in a symmetrical way, but in the end I decided against it and included more red rows. And as a finishing touch I added a row of single crochet all around.

It's obviously not perfect because the yarn scraps were all of different quality, but it apparently serves well it's purpose and it still was a great way to get rid of bits of yarn which lived in my crafts closet for a long time.

Destashing project number one completed. Yay!
