Happy Halloween & our pumpkins

Wishing a happy Halloween to those of you who celebrate it!

Happy Halloween & our pumpkins

And while we're at it, I want to show you the pumpkins we made this year for my kids school.

My son was given the challenge of creating a piece of Halloween decor using only recycled materials. So we built this pumpkin:

Using two milk cartons, newspapers, and one chopstick. Here it is in the first stages of making...

Then we wrapped a piece of green yarn around the chopstick and decorated with some leftover bits of black EVA foam.

For my daughters class we were supposed to actually carve a real pumpkin. But then, mostly due to the high temperatures we've been having these past few days, a few of the early delivered pumpkins started to rotten and my daughter's teacher told us to improvise instead.

And so we did. We cut a pumpkin shape out of glittery orange EVA foam, decorated it and glued a ribbon on top for hanging.

All in all, I think we fulfilled our mission. And now it's time to sit back and enjoy.

Happy Tuesday, and happy Halloween!

A black cat for Halloween

I've never been a huge fan of Halloween and anything remotely creepy is definitely not my style. So all of my Halloween crafts are always more cute than actually scary. Last year I made a ghost hand puppet for my son's class and this year I made a black cat.

It's a simple cat sewn out of black felt but it turns out to be a nice Halloween decor piece if creepy is also not your groove.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Memories from our summer vacation - part 2

I posted part one of the photos from our summer vacation by mid-September, and then somehow time flew by and I never posted the rest of the photos.

DIY Play Food: Lettuce Leaves

Hello and welcome to another installment of the DIY play food series. Following up on the felt play hamburgers, and the cheese slices, today I'm showing you how to make lettuce leaves for your kids to play with (and maybe, just maybe, you'll be able to convince them to eat the real ones - or so I keep telling myself).

Hello, and welcome. Halloween is almost here, so this is the perfect time to share with you the Halloween cards I designed this year.

I usually go for things with a lot of color but this time I decided to stick to just black and white and I was very happy with the result.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - sail ships

There's something about sail ships - especially the large ones - that has always fascinated me. So when, a couple of weeks ago (on a rare day off without the kids) we found out that we could not only admire the ships but also visit them - well, I just had to go!

There was a bit of everything, from some of the school ships of the Portuguese navy (the most famous of which is the NRP Sagres in the photo above) to replicas of the Portuguese and Spanish sail ships that roamed the world in the 15th and 16th centuries.  They were docked, so no sails up, but still beautiful. Overall, a great day!

Happy Wednesday!
