5 cute & easy DIY Halloween costumes

The ABC Crafts Series...H is for Halloween!

Yep, Halloween is almost here. Are you ready? Well, I am. Sort of. We don't really decorate for Halloween, as it is not a traditional Portuguese holiday, but the kids always have a Halloween party at school and they are getting more and more excited about it with each passing year.

This year I still plan to make a new bat costume for my son (let's see if I have time to share it on the blog before the actual day) but in the meantime I leave you with some additional inspiration!

DIY scary ghost hand puppet

I'm back today with a very quick school project we had to make this week: my son needed to create a scary object to take to class, for a Halloween exhibit they are preparing. While browsing my craft books during the weekend, he decided on a ghost. So we made a ghost hand puppet.

Quick & easy DIY ponytail holders

This year my daughter's first grade teacher sent a note home saying the she prefers to have the girls with longer hair using ponytails during class time. We do have a few store bought ponytails at home, but they've seen several years of use already, so we decided to make some new ones. It was our mother-daughter craft last weekend.

Quick & easy DIY ponytail holders

Ponytails are very easy to make, but if you're taking the time, you might as well make them as cute as possible. So we decided to use some princess buttons I bought at a craft store a while ago.

Watercolor Fall Printable Cards

A couple of weeks ago I decided to join the Creative Play Challenge. If you haven't heard about it before, you can read about it here, but basically each week we are given a prompt that we can use as as inspiration for our own creative projects.

Watercolor Fall Printable Cards

I have missed a couple of weeks of prompts, but this week we were supposed to play with watercolors and I decided to give it a try. And, to be in season, I picked a fall-ish theme.

http://www.littlegirldesigns.com/play-with-watercolors/

Now, I'm not much of a painter and I have zero talent for drawing, so I had to find a way do do something I felt comfortable with and still enjoy the results.

I "stole" my daughter's watercolors for a while and got down to work. Given my limited artistic capabilities, I decided to take the easy route. So...I used my Sizzix to cut a leaf shape out of sticker paper, glued it onto some blank cards and painted over it. When I removed the leaf sticker, this is what I had:

Watercolor Fall Printable Cards

Then I decided to turn my card into a free printable for all of you, so I scanned it and played with the colors a bit more, and I ended up with four alternative designs:

If you want to download these cards, click here. You have one pdf with the four cards together, and then one jpeg file for each of the colors, so you can choose your favorite or just print them all.

Feel free to use these cards as you want, but f you re-post or share on social media, just please leave a link back to this page!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - bits and pieces from our summer vacation part 4

On one of the last days of our summer break I decided to show the my kids (and my husband too, since he'd never been there before) the village of Monsaraz.

Monsaraz, Portugal

Monsaraz, Portugal

Monsaraz is one of my favorite places in the Portuguese region of Alentejo. It's lays at the top of a very steep hill and is totally contained inside the old castle walls, so you are truly walking through a medieval village that remained virtually unchanged for something like 800 years.

Monsaraz, Portugal

From the top, you also have amazing views all around (which I'm sure were very useful when the castle was used for military purposes), including the artificial lake of the Alqueva dam and over the border into Spain (which is only a few kilometers away).
