5 very easy crochet ideas!

The ABC Crafts Series: C is for...crochet

Welcome to another roundup in the ABC Craft Series. After two weeks on the letter B (the beading projects, and the baby projects), we are moving on to letter C!

5 very easy crochet ideas

In my opinion, crochet is a very relaxing hobby, but whenever I post about crochet on the blog there are always comments from people who say they wish they had learned to crochet but never did.

I may be biased, but I think crochet is much easier than it looks. So for this ABC of crafts post I wanted to show you some very simple crochet projects. Cute and useful items that even beginners can make and enjoy. And who knows, maybe I'll inspire people who never crocheted before to give it a try!

The Really Crafty Link Party #3: the featured posts!

It's Friday, so welcome back for another roundup of The Really Crafty Link Party features!

A big thank you to everyone why linked up, shared on social media and visited this week! All posts were amazing, and I faced a really difficult task having to pick just three to be featured! Check them out below!

Valentine's Day Dominoes - free printable

Last year I made some Ester dominoes for my kids and they were a huge it. Every once in a while they still pick them to play, so this year I decided to add to their collection and make some Valentine's Day dominoes too!

These are a really inexpensive Valentine's day gift for children, so I'm printing out several sets for my kids to share with their school buddies.

To make your own, download the file here and use a color printer to print the pages front and back (the pages are organized in a way that when you print front and back, the back of the pieces will have a background of little hearts in it, instead of just being blank) in the thickest paper or cardboard you can run through your printer. There are eight pages in total, so four sheets of paper are needed.

Each (front) page will look like this:

While the back will have this pattern (found here via Pinterest):

Cut each of the individual pieces, tie them together with a ribbon or a piece of elastic, add a cute label and you're set with a great, original Valentine's gift.

For a more durable game, you can also laminate the pieces.

I hope you enjoy these printables. If I have time before February 14th, I'm also planning to make a Valentine's memory game, another of my kids favorites.

Happy Thursday,

10 minutes tablet cover: how to

A while ago I made a cover for my Ipad, which survived almost a year and a half of everyday use (click here for the pattern and tutorial). Lately, though, that cover was in desperate need of retirement, and this weekend I finally decided to make another.

10 minutes tablet cover how to, tutorial

However, my life has been so busy lately, that more often than not 10 minutes is all I have available to sew. So I needed to forget more complicated patterns and find a way to create a new cover in just that small slot of time.

I'm posting here a tutorial, not specific measurements, so that everyone can replicate the process for its own tablet.

5 amazingly easy projects to sew for babies

The ABC Crafts Series: B is for...baby

Yes, this is week three of the ABC Crafts series and we are still covering letter B. Last week I shared a roundup of wonderful beading projects, but this week I'm repeating the letter to show you some pretty easy baby ideas too.

In case you missed the previous posts, the ABC Crafts series will be covering one (or more) crafts for each letter of the alphabet during 2016. Each roundup features 5 links, grouped around the major theme. All links posted will be DIY tutorials with clear instructions and/or free patterns, so that everyone can easily replicate them.

I've now created a specific page for the series, which will include links to the crafts already covered, and a list of upcoming topics. You can find the page here. If you have suggestions for any of the topics, feel free to leave me a comment or send me an e-mail and I will try to include your ideas as much as possible (with proper credit)!

And now, without further delay, let's check the 5 easy baby projects I found for you today! I picked 5 things that are not only useful and quick to make, but also so easy that even beginners can tackle them. They are perfect for gifts to new babies or expectant mothers, baby showers and, of course, to make for your own babies.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - at the beach

Last Saturday we enjoyed the first sunny day of 2016 and...we went to the beach, of course.

beach sunset photos

Although I love the beach and the ocean at any time of the year, these winter days, when almost no one else is around and we seem to have the sea and the sand just for us, are pretty amazing.

My kids were totally dedicated to their favorite activities: collecting shells and digging holes in the sand.

And we were able to stay until sunset before the chill drove us away.

Too bad we are back to rain again now...

5 beading projects you'll not want to miss!

The ABC Crafts Series week 2: B is for...beads

Welcome to the latest addition to the ABC Crafts. I've now created a specific page for the series, which will include links to the crafts already covered, and a list of upcoming topics. You can find the page here. If you have any wonderful suggestions for any of the topics, feel free to leave me a comment or send me an e-mail and I will try to include your ideas as much as possible (with proper credit)!

And now, without further delay, let's check the 5 amazing beading projects I found for you today!

5 beading projects you'll not want to miss, abc crafts

There are lots of beading projects all over the web, but most of them are just too complicated, others don't come with instructions, and others still only serve as a platform for bead selling companies to advertise their products. I wanted something homemade and that can be easily replicated.

With maybe one exception, these are very easy projects, with clear how-tos and that come together pretty quickly, which is just perfect!

The Really Crafty Link Party #1 Features!

Welcome to the first Really Crafty Link Party features!

There were lots of amazing links (a big thank you to everyone who participated and supported this party throughout the week), from which I had the hard task of having to pick three to highlight today!

My latest crochet project...

On a regular basis my daughter complains that her dolls don't have enough clothes. Besides, her dolls don't like to share clothes, which makes it all much more difficult.

crochet doll coat, doll clothes

Last year she asked me to make some winter hats and scarfs for a couple of dolls and, because I wanted to re-start knitting, I complied. Actually, the hats turned out so well that I created a tutorial on how to make easy winter knit hats of any size.

This time, her request was a bit more difficult (at least for me). She wanted a coat for one of her babies. I stalled for a couple of days, wondering how was I going to fit that into my always busy schedule, and even browsed a few patterns online.

In the end? I winged it!

I didn't bother with a pattern, just crocheted rectangles in the right sizes (taking measurements directly from the doll): one large rectangle for the back (almost a square, really), two smaller ones (but large enough to overlap) for the front and a couple more for the sleeves.

I was using bits of leftover yarn (from my son's fluffy owl pillow) and the yellow ended halfway through the sleeves, so I had to add a bit of green.

While sewing it all together my daughter passed me the message that I wasn't doing it right, because that's not how grandma does it (my mother knits a lot and the kids are used to seeing her making lots of sweaters and coats for all of us). I considered myself duly informed, but since I only had a small time slot available, it was the best I could do.

I let her pick the buttons from my stash, and she decided to add the pink bear button too as decoration.

In the end, I don't think it turned out too bad for less than an hour's work.

And now my daughter can take her baby for a stroll without worrying about her getting sick... :).

DIY Play Food: A Pan of Pasta

Welcome to another post in the DIY Play Food Series. I have lots and lots of play food ideas to share, but it takes me a while to round them up and get them ready.

Today I bring you a Pan of Pasta. Felt pasta, of course.

DIY play food: felt pasta

Felt pasta is one of the easiest play foods to make, and also one the kids can easily relate to, so here's a small tutorial on how to make three types of pasta:
