Easy Felt Pencil Case: how to

Today I had planned to post another DIY play food tutorial but since I haven't finished drafting the pattern yet, I decided to go with this pencil case I created couple of weeks ago and then never got round to share.

Since Christmas is fast approaching, it's a perfect idea for a homemade gift or stocking stuffer for all art lovers (works well for knitting needles or crochet hooks too if you have a knitter or a crochet lover in the family).

It's very easy to make and adds flair to any set of purchased colouring pencils or notebooks. There are several tutorials online, but I've been making pencil covers like this for years I find it's the easiest and the fastest way to create a felt pencil case.

Welcome to the third edition of the Holidays Celebration Link Party – a seasonal weekly link party where bloggers can share their Holidays posts, crafts and recipes, check out what others have been up to and find lots of inspiration!

Missed last week's party features? Find them here

This is a time for celebration, so come and share with us your crafts, special recipes, printables, tips & tricks and whatever else you're planning for Christmas! Add old posts, new posts, anything goes, but remember, ONLY Holiday related links will get a chance to be featured.

The party will run from Monday to Thursday and I will post the features next Friday, the 4th December. In the meantime, all posts added to the linkup will be pinned to the Holidays! Celebration Pinterest board here!

I'm not big on link party rules, so I've set just a few guidelines:
  • Link to a specific post, not your home page
  • There are no thumbnails in the party, so make sure you add an interesting title/description to your link
  • Don't link and run! Please visit other links, make friends, get inspired
  • Consider adding the Holidays Celebration Link Party button (below) to your parties page or your post and share that you linked up to this party on social media so that other can join us too. The more the merrier! If you follow me via any social media (icons in the side bar) leave me a comment and I'll make sure to follow you back!
  • By linking up to the Holidays Celebration Link Party you give us permission to use your photos in features or round-us, and to share your posts on social media (always with a link back to you for proper credit)

Happy Thanksgiving!

thanksgiving

As you know, I don't live in the US so we're not celebrating today. However, I still admire the principles and ideas behind Thanksgiving and I'm amazed every year with the work you all have to celebrate it properly.

We also should all be thankful for the blessings in our lives. Enjoy your holiday!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - Dawn

After a couple of weeks of heavy rain, we've now been blessed with some beautiful (though freezing cold) days.

This was the very early morning view out of our kitchen window yesterday...

Felt Lined Fabric Bags

Even though I have a series of other projects lined up for completion, this weekend I decided to sew some bags. My goal is to use them as gift bags, much the same as I did last year with the burlap bags, for those family members to which I usually give a series of small items I know they need/will use throughout the year (gourmet food, bath accessories, etc).

felt lined fabric bags tutorial

Last year I had thought of felt lined with fabric and then ended up with burlap lined with fabric. This year I made fabric lined with felt instead.

And while I'm using them as gift bags, they can be re-used by the recipients throughout the year for a variety of other purposes.

Want to make one too? Here´s the tutorial.

Christmas Countdown Calendar - free printable

My son loves to create countdown calendars to mark the days left until an important event. We usually do this with his birthday and, since last year, we started doing it for Christmas as well.

Even though we have Advent Calendars for each of the kids, my son really likes to rip a page everyday and know exactly how many days he still has to wait.

Last year I was totally pressed for time, so I made a very simple calendar (you can find it here). This year I started early (he's been asking for a couple of weeks now) and created a bit more sophisticated countdown calendar, with a different image every day.

No clutter in 2015 - week 46 update

no clutter in 2015, decluttering tips

Have you noticed that we have exactly six weeks left before the year end? It's time to step up with decluttering, and, like I posted here last week, the Holiday season provides us with the perfect excuse to get rid of a lot of things

In the past few weeks, I've been mostly focused on donations. I finally found a place that accepts donations of books and as of now, five bags of books have left my house and next weekend I want to pack up the remaining books to send away.

I've also donated one bag of kids clothes and a few toys, including one baby play mat that was at least four years overdue in finding a new home. I have packed two bags to take to Kid to Kid and probably will be adding a third one. I want to get everything ready to take them next week to the store.

So, in addition to the books, I've been mostly focused on cleaning out the kids closets to prepare for the new Christmas gifts that will come in a few weeks.

Hopefully next weekend I will have time to sew a few more gift bags, to finish organizing the Christmas gifts and get that off my list as well, in time to focus on Christmas decor, which in our house is always up on December 1st!

How to create gift baskets like a pro

Remember my post last week, when I discussed tips to save money on Christmas gifts? One of those tips was to create your own gift package alternatives.

So, today I'm sharing a small tutorial on how to create amazing gift baskets at a very small cost and using materials we all have at home. You can save money and the end result will be just as attractive as the more expensive store bought alternatives.

Have you ever noticed how often those cute Christmas baskets of beauty products cost a lot more than the price of the individual items inside? Well, now you have the perfect solution for this problem.

No clutter in 2015 - How the Holidays can help you declutter!

This post is part of the No Clutter in 2015 series that I've been sharing every Thursday since the beginning of the year. Last week I was down with a nasty stomach virus so writing a post was the last thing on my mind, so this week, even though I have a lot of updating to do, I decided to change the motto a bit and talk about how the upcoming weeks until the year end are actually the perfect timing for decluttering.

I sounds strange, right? That Holidays Season can actually help you declutter. But it can, trust me. Check out how in four simple steps:

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday - cityscapes

Last Saturday morning my husband left for one of his (usually long) bike rides in the city of Lisbon (which isn't an easy feat, since Lisbon isn't called the "city of the seven hills" for nothing) and when he returned he proudly told me he had taken some photos for my blog.

So, obligingly, I'm posting them today.
